Imran Khan urges a transparent investigation into the deaths of PTI workers during the May 9 and November 26 protests, while demanding accountability from law enforcement agencies

Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has declared December 15 as “Martyrs Day” to honour the party workers who lost their lives during protests on May 9 and November 26. Khan, currently imprisoned, has also called for a judicial inquiry into the deaths, alleging that PTI supporters were killed by law enforcement agencies during peaceful demonstrations.

In a statement through his sister, Aleema Khanum, Imran demanded an impartial investigation led by a joint commission of three senior judges from the Supreme Court. This commission would focus on the deaths of PTI workers, which Khan claims were caused by the actions of security forces. Initially, Imran sought an inquiry into the May 9 incidents, but he has now extended the request to include the November 26 events.

Imran emphasized the importance of transparency, demanding access to CCTV footage of the incidents and the dismissal of what he termed “fabricated FIRs” against PTI leaders and workers. He rejected witness testimonies provided by police, accusing authorities of attempting to conceal the scale of the violence.

In his message for Martyrs Day, Imran expressed solidarity with the families of the deceased and called for workers across Pakistan to offer prayers for the fallen. He condemned the oppression of the current system, stating, “A system of disbelief can survive, but one based on oppression cannot.”

Imran also raised concerns over the treatment of missing PTI workers, particularly those involved in the November 24 protest. He revealed that he remains unaware of developments in Islamabad due to his confinement, where access to news and information is restricted.

As part of his broader call for justice, Imran urged overseas Pakistanis to take action if his demands are not met. He proposed that they halt remittances to Pakistan to exert pressure on the government, despite the short-term hardship it may cause to their families. Imran’s appeal underscores his frustration with what he describes as systemic oppression, urging international support for his cause.
