A man obsessed with horror films killed and dismembered his housemate, dumping body parts across Manchester

A murder investigation has exposed a gruesome crime in Salford, Greater Manchester, where Marcin Majerkiewicz brutally killed his 67-year-old housemate, Stuart Everett, before dismembering his body into 27 pieces and dumping the remains across the city.

The 42-year-old killer, who had a disturbing fixation with horror and gore, bludgeoned Everett with a hammer-type weapon, then used a hacksaw to cut his body apart. The remains were stuffed into bags and transported on public buses, with the killer making multiple journeys across Salford and Manchester to dispose of the evidence.

The shocking crime came to light in April last year, when a member of the public discovered Everett’s torso wrapped in cling film in an abandoned bunker at Kersal Dale Nature Reserve. This led to a wider police search, uncovering body parts scattered in remote areas, including Linnyshaw Colliery Woods, Boggart Hole Clough, Blackleach Reservoir, Worsley Woods, and Chesterfield Close.

Majerkiewicz denied murder, but a Manchester Crown Court jury found him guilty after less than two hours of deliberation.

Grisly Cleanup and Cover-Up

Investigators uncovered a chilling effort to erase evidence inside the home the two men shared in Winton, Salford. Bloodstains were found on the carpet, walls, and chest of drawers in Majerkiewicz’s bedroom.

Realising he could not remove the blood-soaked carpet, he cut a rectangular section from Everett’s bedroom to replace it, covering it with a bed. But forensic experts recovered the original bloodstained carpet from a skip outside the house, sealing his fate.

In a further twisted deception, Majerkiewicz assumed Everett’s identity, taking control of his finances and even sending text messages and birthday cards to his family, pretending the victim was still alive.

Everett’s brother, Richard Ziemacki, expressed the family’s devastation:

“For any person to be treated the way [my brother] was—brutally murdered and systematically and comprehensively disposed of—has meant our family are traumatised beyond belief.”

A Killer’s Obsession with Horror

Detectives uncovered a dark obsession with gore in Majerkiewicz’s background. He had a tattoo of Jason Voorhees, the masked killer from Friday the 13th, and had racked up £60,000 in debt.

Authorities suspect financial struggles, relationship tensions, and psychological issues played a role in the killing, but a definitive motive remains unclear.

Rebecca Macaulay-Addison, from the Crown Prosecution Service, described his actions as “despicable and disturbing”, saying he tried to “cover his tracks with a web of lies”.

Life Sentence Awaits

The trial judge, Mr Justice Cavanagh, confirmed Majerkiewicz faces a mandatory life sentence, with a minimum term to be set on 28 March.

Police continue investigating whether any additional remains are yet to be recovered.
