The incredible total was announced at the end of the live BBC broadcast on Friday, March 21. Their efforts alone contributed over £1 million to Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day, a feat that was met with widespread admiration.
The funds raised will support various initiatives tackling poverty, injustice, conflict, and climate change both in the UK and around the world. Throughout the challenge, they received messages of encouragement from celebrities such as Claudia Winkleman, Sir Chris Hoy, Kevin Clifton, and Rick Astley.
Their Morning Live colleagues and a host of celebrity guests, including Kimberley Walsh, Dr Ranj, and the bands Dear Alice and Bluey, also cheered them on. Stars from The Traitors and Gladiators joined in the support, ensuring the duo kept their spirits high.
Once the challenge was completed, Helen took to social media to reflect on the experience. In an emotional post, she wrote:
“Broadcast and roller-skated for twenty-four hours. Overwhelmed by your support. In awe of your donations.”
She expressed gratitude for everyone who contributed to the cause, from fans who sent messages of encouragement to the production team who made it all possible.
Helen also took a moment to acknowledge the teamwork that drove their success:
“Teamwork makes the dream work… behind every good woman and all that.”
But her most heartfelt words were reserved for Gethin Jones. Sharing a series of photos and videos from the challenge, she made a rare public declaration of her admiration for her co-host:
“My dear @gethincjones … You are some man. I don’t publicly say often enough how much love and respect I have for you, my friend. You’re a legend, and I am beyond grateful to have you by my side on the rink, the sofa, and beyond.”
Helen’s post quickly drew reactions from fans and fellow celebrities, with many praising the duo’s determination and commitment to the cause.
One user, @jonesemmas, commented:
“Both of you are legends. Such great sports that love a great challenge.”
Another, @sassywyattofficial, wrote:

Beyond the physical challenge, Helen and Gethin’s efforts highlighted the importance of using their platforms for good. The funds they helped raise will make a tangible difference in the lives of many, supporting charities and community projects that provide vital aid to those in need.
