Devastation unfolds as landlady recalls the grim day, while police investigate the shocking incident

In a heart-wrenching account, the landlady who discovered the lifeless bodies of young Bronson Battersby and his father Kenny has revealed the agonizing moment she knew the two-year-old was dead. Maria Clifton-Plaice, overcome with grief, shared that she left her Skegness home hastily on January 9 when social workers expressed concern about Kenny and Bronson, who had not been seen alive since Boxing Day.

Recalling the dreadful discovery, Maria stated, “The social worker called and asked for the key, I said, ‘Of course.’ There were two of them there waiting for me, a younger woman and an older one. We went down the stairs, and I opened the front room door, but it was blocked by Kenny’s body.”

The landlady, who considered Kenny a friend, recounted the harrowing scene, “I ran to the bedroom to look for him, shouting his name but there was no sign, so we ran out and called 999.” The paramedic’s reaction upon discovering young Bronson intensified the tragedy, as Maria heard him say, “Oh god no,” confirming the devastating reality.

Kenny, who reportedly had a known heart condition, had been caring for Bronson for approximately six months. The child’s mother, Sarah, had agreed to the arrangement due to safety concerns in her new flat. Despite regular visits by children’s services, the shocking incident unfolded, leaving the community in disbelief.

Maria expressed her willingness to cooperate with social services, stating, “The minute anyone said they were concerned for Kenny and Bronson, I would have been there in a flash. There was never any question about me allowing access.”

In a cruel turn of events, prescription drugs, Kenny’s wallet, and cash believed to be stored in a Bisto tub were stolen from the flat a day after the bodies were removed. Maria described the break-in as “unbelievable” and a “disgusting insult” to the memory of Kenny and Bronson.

As authorities continue their investigation, the tragedy has prompted reflection on the need for vigilance and support for those facing challenges, underscoring the importance of community awareness and empathy.
