Lewis Hamilton returns to Ferrari action in Barcelona Tyre testing, outpacing Charles Leclerc but trailing Lando Norris

Lewis Hamilton continued his Ferrari integration with an extensive Pirelli tyre test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, marking his first real test in Ferrari’s 2024 challenger, the SF-24. The seven-time World Champion went head-to-head with teammate Charles Leclerc, with both drivers providing crucial data for Pirelli’s 2026 slick tyre development.

Despite an earlier setback—when Hamilton crashed the SF-23 at Turn 12 during his first Ferrari outing at Barcelona, causing bodywork and suspension damage—the British driver bounced back in the latest two-day test. However, it was Lando Norris in the McLaren who topped the time sheets.

Norris posted the fastest lap of 1:15.21, completing an impressive 159 laps. Hamilton, despite being 0.13s quicker than Leclerc, had to settle for second with a best time of 1:15.93, completing 87 laps, while Leclerc clocked in 86 laps.

Ferrari and McLaren ran modified versions of their cars, with 20% reduced downforce to better simulate the impact of the upcoming F1 2026 regulations, which will introduce major chassis and power unit changes.

With his first proper Ferrari running now under his belt, Hamilton’s transition to the Scuderia is well underway. But as the battle between teammates begins, could Leclerc step up to challenge his legendary new partner?
