Environmental engineer steps into politics following Sam Hibbins’ resignation, promising to tackle key crises facing Prahran residents

The Greens have officially announced Angelica Di Camillo as their candidate for the upcoming Prahran by-election, setting the stage for a fierce contest with the Liberal Party. The seat became vacant after Sam Hibbins, a longstanding Greens MP, resigned following personal controversies that led to questions about his conduct.

Di Camillo, an environmental engineer, is stepping into the race at a time when local residents are facing numerous challenges, from housing affordability to the escalating climate crisis. The by-election was triggered by Sam Hibbins’ decision to step down after admitting to an affair with a staffer, a breach of party rules. His resignation followed allegations from a former intern who claimed Hibbins tried to kiss her during his first term as an MP. Hibbins has denied the allegations, but the controversy ultimately led to his departure from politics. On November 23, he announced he would leave politics for good, citing concerns over the well-being and safety of his family.

Di Camillo has taken the opportunity to advocate for more decisive action on housing, climate change, and affordability.
