Eddie Murphy recently revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that he has an impeccable memory, especially when it comes to a $100,000 bet made with the late Richard Pryor back in 1985. Known primarily for his comedic prowess, Murphy ventured into music with his debut album, “How Could It Be,” released the same year.

The album’s liner notes included a special thanks to Michael Jackson and Prince, humorously stating, “Simply because it’s hip to have your names on my album.” However, the standout revelation was Murphy’s acknowledgment of the hefty wager with Pryor. The notes read, “And to Richard Pryor, my idol, with whom I have a $100,000 bet. No motherf**ker, I didn’t forget.”

Explaining the background to Jimmy Kimmel, Murphy recounted how Pryor challenged him to release a music album devoid of jokes, offering a substantial bet. Murphy accepted the challenge and successfully delivered the album, but as he humorously stated, “And he never paid me.”

Despite starring together in “Harlem Nights” after the bet, Murphy never brought up the outstanding debt. “I never said anything. But he owes me,” Murphy quipped, acknowledging that the payment might be a long wait since Pryor passed away in 2005 at the age of 65.

The 62-year-old Murphy, who recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote his new Christmas movie, “Candy Cane Lane,” continues to entertain audiences with anecdotes from his illustrious career.
