With the deluxe edition of ‘Scarlet’ on the horizon, Doja Cat shares her laid-back perspective on unauthorized music leaks

Doja Cat, the 28-year-old music sensation, has openly expressed her indifference towards the growing trend of music leaks within the industry. In a recent discussion on X (formerly Twitter), she addressed fans’ concerns about the impact of leaks on streaming numbers, stating plainly, “But I don’t care.” This candid response came amid conversations surrounding the unauthorized sharing of artists’ unreleased tracks on social media platforms, sparking debate over the implications for official release strategies.

Acknowledging the disrespect inherent in leaks, particularly when they pre-empt carefully planned releases, Doja Cat nevertheless maintains a pragmatic outlook. “No it’s definitely messed up cuz I wanted to put it out myself but there’s nothing I can do about it!!” she concedes.

Despite the frustration of seeing her work distributed without consent, Doja Cat chooses to focus on the future, highlighting her excitement for forthcoming creative projects and her eagerness to continue sharing her art with fans.

The discourse around music leaks has gained traction following the premature circulation of songs from the deluxe edition of Doja Cat’s 2023 album, ‘Scarlet’.

The artist herself has teased ‘Scarlet II: Claude Frollo’, an extension of the original album, set to be officially released on April 5. This recent incident underscores the challenges artists face in the digital age, where the instantaneous and widespread dissemination of content can disrupt traditional release mechanisms.

Doja Cat’s approach to dealing with leaks — emphasizing resilience, creativity, and the anticipation of future endeavors over the immediate drawbacks — reflects a broader trend among artists navigating the complexities of the music industry today. Her stance also opens up a dialogue about the changing dynamics between artists, fans, and the platforms that connect them, challenging traditional perceptions of ownership, control, and success in the era of digital music consumption
