Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray will continue their partnership through Wimbledon despite Djokovic’s injury setback
Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray have decided to extend their unexpected partnership, committing to working together at least through Wimbledon, according to The Times of London. The duo, once fierce rivals, appear determined to see their collaboration through, even as Djokovic battles an injury that could delay his return to the court.
Djokovic, who tore his hamstring during his Australian Open quarterfinal against Carlos Alcaraz, was forced to retire in the semifinals against Alexander Zverev. ESPN’s Chris Fowler recently reported that the Serbian legend could miss “a couple of months” due to the injury, putting his participation in upcoming tournaments in doubt. However, should he recover in time, Djokovic and Murray are expected to reunite at Indian Wells in March.
Before the injury, their partnership was already making headlines. Murray, a former world No. 1 and three-time Grand Slam champion, took on a coaching role for Djokovic, a move that shocked many given their long history as on-court adversaries. Yet, the Serbian star has embraced having Murray in his corner.
“It’s all business for us now,” Djokovic said in Melbourne after his first-round victory. “Obviously, thrilled to have him in my corner. I must say, it was a little bit of a strange experience to have him right courtside in my box. We played for over 20 years against each other on the highest level, and it’s great to have him on the same side of the net.”
Despite Djokovic’s injury concerns, this partnership is far from over. With Wimbledon on the horizon, the duo is setting its sights on the sport’s biggest stage, raising the question—will Murray help Djokovic secure a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title?
