Ex-FTX boss Sam Bankman-Fried reveals what life is like behind bars with disgraced rapper Diddy

Sean “Diddy” Combs, once a billionaire music mogul, now roams the grim corridors of Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, where he shares space with convicted fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried and suspected murderer Luigi Mangione.

Bankman-Fried, sentenced to 25 years for orchestrating one of history’s biggest financial frauds, recently broke his silence on life inside. Speaking to Tucker Carlson, the ex-crypto king described the prison as a “soul-crushing place” but admitted that Diddy had been unexpectedly kind to him and other inmates.

“It’s a weird environment,” he admitted, revealing that he hadn’t exactly been making friends. But when it came to Combs, Bankman-Fried had only positive words. “Obviously, I’ve only seen one piece of him, which is Diddy in prison,” he said. “He’s been kind to people in the unit. He’s been kind to me.”

Despite facing allegations of sex trafficking and racketeering, Combs appears to have established a reputation as a calm presence behind bars. But his days of luxury are long gone—his May 5 trial looms large, and multiple civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault continue to mount against him.

Bankman-Fried, who once controlled billions through his now-defunct crypto empire FTX, painted a bleak picture of life in prison. “My heart is not really into anything right now,” he confessed. “It’s kind of a soul-crushing place, where all you see is the people around you.”

The former billionaire’s downfall came swiftly in 2023 when he was convicted of wire fraud, securities fraud, and money laundering after scamming thousands of customers. Just a year before, he had been hailed as a financial prodigy, a genius who built a crypto empire from the ground up. Now, he finds himself locked away with hardened criminals.

Meanwhile, Combs’ situation is even more dire. The once-beloved music icon is accused of running a criminal empire of his own, with federal prosecutors linking him to shocking sex-trafficking allegations. He was arrested in a high-profile raid and is now awaiting trial, fighting to clear his name while facing a future that could include decades in prison.

Inside the Brooklyn facility, Combs and Bankman-Fried live under constant surveillance, surrounded by violent offenders. Bankman-Fried described a prison filled with “alleged ex-gangsters,” a stark contrast to the lavish lifestyles both men once enjoyed.

While Combs remains in legal limbo, Bankman-Fried’s fate is sealed. The former tech mogul has decades of prison life ahead, forced to watch the walls close in on his once-unlimited future. Whether Combs will follow him into long-term incarceration or walk free remains to be seen—but for now, both men exist in the same grim reality.
