Company’s generous scheme benefits over 100,000 employees

Delta Airlines has distributed a staggering $1.4 billion to its employees through its annual profit-sharing program, marking a significant increase from last year’s payouts. The airline, known for its commitment to employee welfare, ensured that this year’s payouts exceeded double the amount distributed in the previous year.

Over 100,000 Delta employees, excluding mid-level managers, received payments equivalent to approximately 10% of their annual salaries, with some receiving more than a month’s pay. The average payout per employee was around $1,400, highlighting the scale of the program and its impact on staff.

This year’s payout is the second-largest in the airline’s history, following a $1.6 billion distribution in 2019. In contrast, 2020 saw no profit-sharing payments due to the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the aviation industry, leading to a significant drop in demand for air travel.

Despite only 20% of Delta’s workforce being unionized, primarily consisting of pilots, the airline’s profit-sharing scheme remains one of the most generous in the industry. Profit-sharing schemes have become increasingly prevalent in aviation, offering employees a stake in the company’s success and providing a buffer against economic downturns.

Delta’s commitment to its employees is evident in its robust profit-sharing program, which not only rewards staff for their contributions but also serves as a strategic tool to manage labour costs and maintain competitiveness in the market.
