High praise for the true story-based series unveiling the real-life heroics of WWII bomber crew

In the wake of the debut of “Masters of the Air” on Apple TV+, audiences find themselves captivated by the gripping portrayal of the harrowing tales of a real American bomber crew during World War II. With the first two episodes now available for streaming, the verdicts are rolling in, and the consensus is overwhelmingly positive.

Featuring a stellar cast including Austin Butler, Barry Keoghan, Callum Turner, and Ncuti Gatwa, “Masters of the Air” lives up to the high expectations set by its ensemble. The series, based largely on Donald L. Miller’s acclaimed book “Masters of the Air: How the Bomber Boys Broke Down the Nazi War Machine,” delves into the exploits of the real-life American bomber crew known as the Bloody Hundredth.

Donald L. Miller, the historian behind the source material, emphasizes the authenticity of the characters by revealing, “The big difference between making this and The Pacific is that back then, a lot of those vets were still alive, and the actors could call them, or we’d have them on set, and they’d tell us what really happened.” He added, “With this, I was practically the only one who had known or interviewed many of these real vets. So the actors would come to me, and I’d help best I could.”

Just two episodes into the miniseries, “Masters of the Air” has garnered an impressive 82 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers express their enthusiasm, with one stating, “I just finished watching the first episode of Masters of the Air, and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time! It was so good and very intense! Can’t wait for more!”

The series has been hailed as a “f**king awesome” experience, and fans draw parallels to its predecessor, “Band of Brothers,” with many recommending it to those who enjoyed the acclaimed war series.

Produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, the minds behind the revered “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific,” “Masters of the Air” serves as a so-called ‘spirit sequel’ to the former. With Apple TV+ backing the project, the collaboration between these industry giants continues to deliver a potent narrative that resonates with audiences.

As the series unfolds with weekly releases, viewers eagerly anticipate the next chapter of this gripping and historically rooted drama.
