Akshay Kanti Bomb withdraws candidacy, joins BJP; Congress cries foul

In a significant political development, Congress candidate Akshay Kanti Bamb withdrew his nomination for the Indore Lok Sabha seat and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the upcoming elections.

The news was confirmed by Madhya Pradesh Minister and BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya, who welcomed Bamb to the BJP fold. Vijayvargiya’s announcement was accompanied by a picture of Bamb, symbolizing his entry into the party.

Bamb’s decision to switch parties dealt a blow to the Congress, which had nominated him to contest against the BJP’s incumbent MP Shankar Lalwani in the upcoming elections. Expressing disappointment, Congress leader Subhashini Sharad Yadav remarked that Bamb’s withdrawal was driven by fear. She stressed the importance of ensuring robust democratic participation despite such setbacks.

Similar defections and joinings have been witnessed in other parts of the country. In Odisha, BJD’s Soro MLA Parshuram Dhada returned to the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha and assembly polls. Meanwhile, in Delhi, a significant number of Sikhs, including members of the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee, joined the BJP.

The BJP seized the opportunity to highlight the government’s initiatives aimed at supporting minority communities. Party chief JP Nadda emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts and claimed that Modi was the real advocate for the welfare of minority groups. The BJP reported that over 1,000 Sikhs joined the party, further strengthening its support base.
