Tristan Sherry’s attempted murder plot at Browne’s steakhouse in Blanchardstown ends tragically as diners disarm him after his weapon jams
In a chilling turn of events on Christmas Eve, a gunman armed with a sub-machine gun attempted to carry out a murder at Browne’s Steakhouse in Blanchardstown, west Dublin. The assailant, identified as Tristan Sherry, targeted a father and son dining in the restaurant but found his own demise after a botched hit.
Tristan Sherry, in his 20s, opened fire on the father in his 40s, hitting him with at least three bullets. However, the situation took an unexpected turn as Sherry’s weapon jammed, leading to a courageous intervention by several patrons who disarmed him. In the ensuing struggle, Sherry sustained over two dozen stab wounds and succumbed to his injuries.
The father, critically injured with gunshot wounds to the neck, was rushed to James Connolly Memorial Hospital. His son, in his 20s, escaped unharmed. Sherry was also taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead later.

Gardai believe a white Audi was used in the incident, and a sub-machine gun, the suspected firearm, was recovered for ballistic analysis. The Garda Technical Bureau is conducting a thorough examination of the crime scene at Browne’s Steakhouse, which is currently sealed off.
No arrests have been made yet, and an investigation led by the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation is underway. An incident room has been set up at Blanchardstown Garda Station, with increased patrols in the area amid concerns of potential revenge attacks, fueled by social media threats.
Justice Minister Helen McEntee expressed her condemnation of the violence, emphasizing the unimaginable human suffering caused by such senseless acts during the Christmas season. Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Children’s Minister Roderic O’Gorman also expressed shock and solidarity with those affected.
Local politicians and community leaders voiced their dismay at the incident, describing it as a callous attack that endangered the lives of innocent people enjoying Christmas festivities. The community is urged to cooperate with the Gardai in providing information about the incident.
