The beloved actress opens up about the overlooked symptom that hinted at her MS diagnosis years before it was confirmed

Christina Applegate, the acclaimed actress known for her roles in “Anchorman,” “Bad Moms,” and “Married…With Children,” has shared a revealing insight into her multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis. The 52-year-old star was diagnosed with the condition in 2021, but she recently disclosed that she experienced a ‘tiny’ symptom seven years prior that hinted at her MS.

Speaking candidly on “Good Morning America,” Applegate recounted how the initial symptom was nothing more than a tingling sensation in her toes. This seemingly insignificant sign occurred just before the filming of the third season of “Dead To Me” in early 2021. As time progressed, the symptoms escalated, eventually rendering her unable to walk long distances without assistance.

Applegate described how her condition rapidly deteriorated by the summer of the same year, necessitating the use of a wheelchair to move around on set. The once minor sensation evolved into a complete loss of strength in her legs, leading her to suspect she might have MS long before receiving an official diagnosis.

Reflecting on her journey, Applegate admitted to downplaying the early signs, attributing them to fatigue, dehydration, or weather changes. It was only when the symptoms became more pronounced and persistent that she acknowledged the possibility of a more serious underlying condition.

Life with MS has been a challenging adjustment for Applegate, who revealed that she experiences ‘excruciating pain’ daily. Despite the constant discomfort, she has come to terms with her new reality, opting for isolation as a coping mechanism to avoid the physical demands of social outings.

Applegate’s bravery and resilience were recently celebrated at the Emmy Awards in January, where she received a standing ovation while presenting an award. The emotional moment underscored the entertainment industry’s support for the actress as she navigates life with MS.

As Applegate continues to speak openly about her condition, she sheds light on the importance of paying attention to even the smallest symptoms, which can sometimes be early indicators of a more significant health issue like multiple sclerosis.
