Palmer and Sancho shine as Chelsea crush Betis in Conference League final

Chelsea thrash Real Betis 4–1 as Palmer sparks comeback and Sancho scores in emphatic final win.

Chelsea roared back from a limp first-half display to thrash Real Betis 4–1 and clinch the UEFA Conference League in style — completing the full set of European trophies and marking a silver-lined start to the Enzo Maresca era.

Wroclaw witnessed a game of two halves. The Blues were dire before the break and fell behind to a smart finish from Abde Ezzalzouli, but a tactical rethink and a masterclass from Cole Palmer flipped the final on its head.

Palmer, Chelsea’s outstanding performer this season, once again took centre stage. He delivered two second-half assists, first for Enzo Fernández’s equaliser and then for Nicolas Jackson’s strike that put Chelsea ahead. From there, it was one-way traffic.

Substitute Jadon Sancho added the third, slotting home with calm precision, before Moisés Caicedo capped the rout deep into stoppage time, rifling in Chelsea’s fourth to spark jubilant celebrations.

Maresca’s men made history in Poland — Chelsea are now the first club to have won the Champions League, Europa League, Cup Winners’ Cup and Conference League. More than that, this was a performance that hinted at bigger things ahead for a youthful, ambitious squad under fresh leadership.

Player Ratings:

Filip Jorgensen – 6
Made a strong early save and couldn’t be faulted for Betis’s opener. Untroubled in the second half as Chelsea dominated.

Malo Gusto – 3
A nightmare first half. Struggled tactically when repeatedly pulled into midfield, gifting Betis space down the right. Sloppy on the ball and directly culpable for the opener. Hooked at half-time for Reece James.

Trevoh Chalobah – 6
Shaky early moments but improved after the break as Betis faded. Decent distribution from the back.

Benoît Badiashile – 4
Part of a defensive unit torn apart in the opening 45. Booked early in the second half and replaced on the hour.

Marc Cucurella – 7
Caught out in the first half but recovered impressively. Grew in confidence, surged forward more often, and helped contain Antony as Chelsea took control.

Enzo Fernández – 8
Scored the equaliser and ran the midfield in the second half. A complete turnaround after a muted start. Always available and drove Chelsea forward.

Moisés Caicedo – 7
Struggled with Betis’s movement early on but was excellent after the break. Capped off the win with a coolly taken fourth goal.

Cole Palmer – 9
The orchestrator. Created the first two goals and set the tempo for the turnaround. Mature, composed, and constantly probing. A complete performance.

Conor Gallagher – 6
Plenty of energy but didn’t have much influence before being sacrificed for Sancho with 30 minutes to go. His pressing did keep Betis uncomfortable.

Mykhailo Mudryk – 6
Lively on occasion, but decision-making in the final third remains inconsistent. Replaced before the hour.

Nicolas Jackson – 7
Took his goal well and led the line with growing confidence. Worked hard throughout and held the ball up cleverly when needed.

Substitutes:

Reece James – 7
Brought balance and calm. A solid, composed second half.

Jadon Sancho – 8
Made an immediate impact off the bench. Scored the crucial third with style and threatened throughout.

Manager: Enzo Maresca – 8
Got it wrong in the first half but reacted decisively at half-time. His subs and tactical changes were spot on. A deserved first trophy.

Chelsea’s triumph in Poland is not just another medal in the cabinet. It’s a bold statement that Maresca’s side — young, fearless, and now proven in Europe — are ready to challenge again on the biggest stages.
