Charlie Woods,15, hits first hole-in-one at PNC championship, but play-off loss denies title
In a stunning moment at the PNC Championship, Charlie Woods, 15, achieved a remarkable feat—his first-ever hole-in-one. The teenage golfing prodigy made his ace on the par-three fourth hole during the final round, sending his father, Tiger Woods, and him into the lead at the prestigious tournament in Orlando, Florida.
The hole-in-one was a highlight of the tournament, which saw 20 major golf champions playing alongside family members. However, despite the magical moment, it was the father-son duo of Bernhard and Jason Langer who emerged victorious. The Langers triumphed in a dramatic play-off, with German golfing legend Bernhard Langer sinking an eagle on the first extra hole to clinch their second consecutive win and their fourth title overall at the event.
Charlie Woods, beaming with pride, shared his joy after the round. “It was awesome,” he said. “No one made a mistake today, so that was some of the most fun I’ve ever had.” He added, “On top of that, I made an ace. I don’t think I can top that.” His hole-in-one was one of two first career aces made on Sunday, with 21-year-old Paddy Harrington, son of three-time major winner Padraig Harrington, also achieving an ace on the eighth hole shortly after Charlie’s.
The competition marked Tiger Woods’ first competitive event since The Open Championship in July. The 48-year-old 15-time major winner had undergone back surgery for the second time in 18 months in September, and despite his health struggles, he admitted he was “nowhere near competitive shape” for the exhibition tournament. Nonetheless, Woods was thrilled by the experience of playing alongside his son. “We made a great team this week,” he said, reflecting on the bond they shared. “And that’s the whole joy of it, is to be out here with family and bonding and just the enjoyment of each other’s company.”
While the Woods duo fell just short of victory, the tournament proved to be a memorable occasion for both father and son, as well as for the Harringtons. For Charlie, the hole-in-one will be a moment to cherish as he continues to make a name for himself in the golfing world.
