Hull silences critics with a bold response, reaffirming her love for golf and dismissing retirement talk

Charley Hull has never been one to hold back, and she’s once again making headlines for her unapologetic attitude. The outspoken English golfer, often at the centre of controversy, recently faced backlash over comments about her training routine and commitment to golf. However, as she prepares for the HSBC Women’s World Championship, Hull has delivered a strong message to her critics: she’s here to stay.

The storm began when Hull, known for her intense fitness regimen, declared at the PIF Saudi Ladies International that she doesn’t train for golf. “I don’t train for golf. I have zero interest in training for golf. I think golf training is a load of rubbish,” she stated bluntly. Instead, she emphasised that her workouts are for her mental health and personal well-being, not necessarily to improve her game.

That statement sent social media into a frenzy. Critics accused her of lacking dedication, with some suggesting she’d never be the best with such an attitude. But Hull, true to form, shrugged off the negativity.

Speaking to the press ahead of her next tournament, she made it clear that golf remains her passion. “I just love playing golf. Love playing in tournaments,” she said. “Been working hard over the winter on my game. Just really looking forward to the majors this year.”

Then came the bombshell moment. A reporter, referencing speculation about her retirement, asked if she was planning to step away from the sport. Hull’s response was as defiant as ever: “I don’t think that’s about me surely. Lexi is retiring but not me. Definitely not me. I’ll play golf until I’m on my deathbed.”

That declaration left no room for doubt—Hull isn’t going anywhere.

She also addressed the relentless scrutiny she faces, especially for her off-course antics, including her viral smoking incident at the US Women’s Open and her infamous lighter exchange with a fan at the Solheim Cup. “I just want to go out there, do me. And people like me for the way I am, that’s cool. If they don’t, it doesn’t bother me. Just being me. As long as my friends and family love me, I’m just happy doing my own thing,” she said.

Hull’s fearless attitude has earned her a cult following, but questions remain about her LPGA success. Her last tour victory came in 2022 at the Volunteers of America Classic. While she secured a win at the Aramco Team Series event in Riyadh last year, fans are still waiting for her to reclaim LPGA glory.

Regardless of the criticism, one thing is certain: Charley Hull isn’t changing for anyone. Love her or hate her, she’s here to play golf—on her terms.
