The actor praised his Marty Supreme co-star a year after their viral on-set kiss in New York

Timothée Chalamet has described Gwyneth Paltrow as “amazing” and “a master” of her craft, sparking headlines just days after the pair were seen together at a secret screening of their upcoming film Marty Supreme.

The 29-year-old actor, who has been in a high-profile relationship with Kylie Jenner, was speaking to The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday when he praised his Oscar-winning co-star. “When I work with people whose work I grew up on — who are masters — it’s the way you’d feel if you were in a drama class and suddenly realise you’re opposite an amazing artist,” Chalamet said. “Gwyneth is incredible.”

The comments came a day after Chalamet and Paltrow appeared side by side on stage at the 63rd New York Film Festival, where Marty Supreme had a private industry screening at the Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center.

The pair, who made headlines last year after being photographed in a passionate embrace while filming the movie in Central Park, were seen smiling and chatting warmly on stage. Chalamet wore an all-black leather outfit with brown suede boots, a cap, and prescription glasses, while Paltrow looked effortlessly elegant in a crisp white shirt, black tie, and leather skirt.

Their chemistry was first captured in October 2024, when the duo were spotted locked in a dramatic French kiss on a New York sidewalk during filming. At the time, behind-the-scenes images of the scene went viral, showing Chalamet pinning Paltrow against a wall in an intense romantic sequence.

Paltrow later joked about the scene in a Vanity Fair interview in March 2025, revealing, “We have a lot of sex in this movie.” Her candid remark only fuelled anticipation for the film’s release — and reignited public fascination with her unexpected pairing with Chalamet.

In Marty Supreme, directed by Mark Rydell, Chalamet stars as Marty Mauser, an ambitious but insecure young table tennis player who falls for a glamorous actress named Kay Stone, played by Paltrow. The story follows their whirlwind romance, testing the limits between fantasy, obsession, and fame.

The film, a stylised romantic dramedy, has been described by critics who attended early previews as “provocative and unexpected,” with Chalamet and Paltrow’s on-screen chemistry cited as one of its highlights.

The actor, who has balanced blockbuster roles in Dune and Wonka with more intimate projects, said working alongside seasoned performers like Paltrow has been formative. “People like Gwyneth and Christian Bale are masters,” he said, referencing his Hostiles co-star. “When you’re around them, you can’t help but learn.”

The admiration appeared mutual when Paltrow shared a brief post on Instagram after the screening, praising Chalamet as “a joy to watch and work with,” alongside a black-and-white photo of the two actors laughing between takes.

Meanwhile, fans online were quick to dissect Chalamet’s latest remarks, with some teasingly wondering how Jenner might feel about her boyfriend’s glowing praise for his co-star. The reality star and beauty mogul was not present at the screening but has been seen publicly with Chalamet several times in recent weeks following months of speculation about their relationship.

Despite the buzz, insiders close to the production insist the actors’ relationship is purely professional and based on mutual respect. “They worked intensely together and built a strong creative connection,” said one source close to the film’s team. “It’s admiration, not romance.”

Marty Supreme, which blends high drama, dark comedy, and surreal dream sequences, is set to open in US cinemas later this year before expanding internationally in November. Early reactions suggest it could mark another major awards-season contender for both stars — and a return to form for Paltrow, who hasn’t headlined a major feature in several years.

For Chalamet, the project marks yet another bold move — one that sees him pushing boundaries while working alongside one of Hollywood’s most seasoned icons.
