The Grammy-winning icon denounces AI-generated music mimicking her voice, calling it “fake” and “unauthorised.
Celine Dion has fired back at artificial intelligence-generated music that allegedly imitates her voice without permission.
The My Heart Will Go On singer took to Instagram on March 7 to address the growing circulation of AI-generated songs falsely claiming to feature her vocals.
“It has come to our attention that unsanctioned, AI-generated music purporting to contain Celine Dion’s musical performances, name, and likeness is currently circulating online and across various digital service providers,” Dion wrote in her statement.
She made it clear that these recordings are “fake and not approved”, warning fans not to be deceived by AI-created tracks masquerading as part of her official discography.
Dion’s statement comes amid rising concerns among artists about the impact of AI on the music industry. Many fear that artificial intelligence is being used to replicate artists’ voices without their consent, potentially stripping them of creative control and revenue.
In 2024, over 200 artists joined forces with the Artists Rights Alliance to condemn AI music generators. The open letter called on tech companies, platforms, and digital music services to stop using AI in ways that infringe upon human artists’ rights.
Among the signatories were Billie Eilish, Zayn Malik, Katy Perry, Camila Cabello, Jonas Brothers, and Jon Bon Jovi.
The petition, while acknowledging AI’s potential when used responsibly, warned against its misuse in ways that “devalue human artistry.”
Dion’s outcry echoes a wider industry battle against AI-driven music piracy. In 2023, Drake, The Weeknd, and Taylor Swift also took legal action after AI-generated versions of their voices surfaced online.
With the lines between human and machine-generated art blurring, the music industry is now scrambling to find legal protections for artists. Meanwhile, fans are left questioning whether their favourite songs are authentic—or just another AI illusion.
