Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty announce separation after over a decade together, no third party involved
Beloved television duo Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty have announced their separation, ending a marriage that lasted more than 13 years and captivated fans across the UK and Ireland. In a joint statement, the presenters confirmed they have officially split and requested privacy as they continue co-parenting their two children.
“We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved,” the pair said. “We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected. There will be no further comment.”
Deeley, 48, has co-hosted ITV’s This Morning since early 2024. Kielty, 54, hosts The Late Late Show on RTÉ and presents a weekend programme on BBC Radio 5 Live. Their union, long considered one of the most grounded among celebrity couples, had its roots in the early 2000s when they worked together on the BBC talent show Fame Academy.
Despite knowing each other for years, the pair didn’t start dating until 2012, when Kielty famously flew from Belfast to Los Angeles just to join Deeley for a birthday lunch. That romantic gesture made headlines at the time and was often cited as the beginning of their deep connection. They married later that year in Rome.
The couple spent more than a decade living in California, where Deeley became a household name in the United States through her role on So You Think You Can Dance. Meanwhile, Kielty built a name for himself through comedy and documentary work, notably producing deeply personal programmes about Northern Ireland’s troubled past.
In 2020, the family returned to the UK and settled in London. Deeley later joined This Morning as a full-time host. Kielty, on the other hand, began hosting The Late Late Show in 2023, Ireland’s most-watched talk show.
Throughout their marriage, they kept their personal life largely private. The couple have two young sons, and while they occasionally spoke about the joys and challenges of parenthood, they steered clear of media overexposure. Their rare public appearances and mutual admiration kept speculation at bay—until now.
This separation announcement comes with no signs of scandal, conflict, or dramatic fallout. The statement’s emphasis on privacy and the lack of any allegations makes the split all the more shocking in a world where celebrity breakups often play out messily and publicly.
Fans have flooded social media with support and surprise, mourning the end of what many saw as a rare example of a showbiz couple that could truly last. Many expressed sadness not only at the end of the relationship but at the subtle, quiet nature of the announcement, which provided little to cling to or analyse.
What lies ahead for both Deeley and Kielty remains to be seen, but their careers continue to thrive individually. For now, they appear focused on their children and committed to navigating their new family dynamic outside of the media spotlight.
As they part ways, their story ends with the same grace that once defined their union—no public feuds, no tabloid wars, just two people moving on from a long chapter together.
