Bradley Cooper reveals his latest challenge—operating the camera himself in his upcoming film.

Bradley Cooper is no stranger to pushing boundaries in Hollywood, but his latest move proves he’s truly unstoppable. The A Star is Born actor-director is taking on yet another role—camera operator—in his upcoming film, Is This Thing On.

Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show during the Super Bowl, Cooper casually dropped the bombshell that he has officially joined the International Cinematographers Guild, IATSE Local 600. “I just joined the union, yeah,” he revealed. “I’ll operate the camera, which I’m very excited about because we did some stuff. We went down to Chinatown, and yeah, it’s been amazing. […] We start in two weeks, so it’s kind of crazy.”

This new challenge comes as Cooper expands his creative control over Is This Thing On, which he co-wrote with Will Arnett and Mark Chappell. While details about the film remain scarce, it’s confirmed that Cooper will star and direct alongside a cast featuring Will Arnett and Laura Dern. Emily Blunt was previously linked to the project, though her involvement remains uncertain.

Cooper’s hands-on approach isn’t new. He previously immersed himself in directing A Star Is Born and Maestro, but stepping behind the camera as an operator marks a bold new chapter in his career.

His Super Bowl appearance wasn’t just about promoting the film—he was also there to support his beloved Philadelphia Eagles. But football aside, his excitement for his new venture was clear.

“It was a project and then I rewrote it along with Will and Mark,” Cooper explained. “You conceive of it, get a group, direct, make the movie, edit it, and then put it out—hopefully, the studio likes it.”

With Cooper’s growing creative control and his newfound role as a cinematographer, Is This Thing On could be his most ambitious project yet.
