Enhanced performance and updated features mark the latest iteration of BMW’s iconic sports coupé
BMW‘s renowned M division has unveiled significant upgrades for the 2024 BMW M2, bolstering its power output and refining its design and technology offerings as part of a broader update to the 2 Series lineup.
Scheduled for release in the UK in August with a starting price of £63,360, the 2024 M2 now boasts an enhanced version of BMW’s turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six engine, delivering an additional 20bhp for a total of 473bhp. Torque figures have also been increased by 37 lb-ft to 443 lb-ft, available across a wide range from 2650 to 6130 rpm.
This power increase positions the M2 on par with the manual transmission variants of the M3 and M4, which are not offered in the UK market.
BMW reports a slight improvement in acceleration, with the M2 Coupe equipped with the eight-speed M Steptronic automatic gearbox achieving 0-62mph in 4.0 seconds, while the six-speed manual option does it in 4.2 seconds. The revised model also shaves 0.6 seconds off its predecessor’s 0-124mph times, achieving 12.9 seconds for the automatic and 13.7 seconds for the manual transmission.
While the top speed remains electronically limited to 155mph, buyers can opt for the M Driver’s package to raise it to 177mph.
Visually, the M2 retains its distinctive styling while introducing an expanded palette of colours, including options like Sao Paul Yellow, Fire Red, Portimao Blue, and Skyscraper Grey. The standard 19-inch front and 20-inch rear M wheels now feature a double-spoke design with a black finish, with a silver finish available as an option.
Inside the cabin, the M2 Coupe receives a new flat-bottomed steering wheel with an optional Alcantara rim and an updated digital operating system incorporating the latest-generation iDrive system.
These updates coincide with broader revisions across the 2 Series range, which now exclusively offers petrol engines following the discontinuation of diesel variants across the 1 Series, 3 Series, 4 Series, and 5 Series.

The increased torque and quicker acceleration times enhance its appeal as a high-performance sports coupé.
Design and Features: The introduction of new exterior colours and updated interior elements, including the steering wheel and digital system, enhances the M2’s aesthetic appeal and driver-centric experience. These refinements cater to both aesthetic preferences and technological expectations of modern luxury sports car buyers
Market Position: By focusing on petrol-only offerings and enhancing performance attributes, BMW aims to align the M2 with market demands for powerful, driver-focused vehicles while maintaining its appeal in key global markets, including the UK, US, Germany, and China.
