Billy Ibadulla, a beloved figure in Warwickshire cricket, has passed away at the age of 88. The former Pakistan all-rounder, who hailed from Lahore, was a key player for Warwickshire during the 1960s and is remembered for his significant contributions to the sport.

Ibadulla made his debut for Pakistan against Australia in 1964 and played four matches for his national team. He joined Warwickshire in 1954 and made his County Championship debut three years later. Throughout his career, he amassed 14,766 first-class runs across 377 matches, averaging 26.32 with 17 centuries, while also taking 419 wickets with his off-spin bowling.

Billy was instrumental in Warwickshire’s one-day cricket history, participating in the first-ever Gillette Cup and featuring in three Lord’s finals. He was part of the team that won the cup in 1966 and later avenged their 1964 defeat to Sussex in 1968.

Warwickshire Cricket Club’s president, Dennis Amiss, paid tribute to Abdullah, describing him as an “incredible mentor” and a “wonderful person.” In his heartfelt message, Amiss reflected on the joy Ibadulla brought to the team, noting his infectious laughter and camaraderie in the dressing room.

His remarkable record includes a memorable 377-run opening partnership against Surrey at The Oval in 1960, which remains the highest first-wicket partnership in the country.
