Donna Maxwell found guilty of stabbing herself and falsely accusing innocent party in bizarre bid for compensation

A shocking revelation has emerged as nurse Donna Maxwell, 47, has been found guilty of orchestrating a disturbing stabbing hoax outside Ailsa Hospital in Ayr. In a twisted plot to claim compensation, Maxwell stabbed herself with a kitchen knife, prompting a massive police response and casting an innocent woman under suspicion.

Maxwell’s deceit began in November 2018 when she claimed to have been attacked by a deranged patient outside the hospital. The incident led to a significant police operation, with hospital grounds sealed off as officers sought the alleged attacker. Tragically, an innocent woman, who has since passed away, faced court proceedings before being cleared of any involvement.

Throughout a four-day trial at Ayr Sheriff Court, Maxwell vehemently maintained her innocence, insisting she was a victim of a random attack. However, the jury delivered a guilty verdict, exposing her deceitful claims.

The courtroom was presented with CCTV footage revealing Maxwell purchasing a knife from Tesco, aligning with the weapon used in the fabricated attack. The footage played a crucial role in dismantling Maxwell’s web of lies.

The court heard that Maxwell, during the staged incident, shouted for help outside Ailsa Hospital at around 10 am on November 22, 2018. Colleagues rushed to her aid, finding her with a knife still embedded in her abdomen. Maxwell pointed the blame at a mystery female, fabricating a tale of ambush and knifing at the mental health and psychiatry facility.

Superintendent Brian Shaw even provided a description of the supposed “suspect” during an appeal for information. Maxwell’s fantasy gradually unraveled, leading to her arrest three weeks later on suspicion of faking the attack.

The jury’s guilty verdict includes charges of making false statements to the police, temporarily depriving the public of police services, and subjecting others to unwarranted suspicion and accusations.

Maxwell’s bizarre and deceitful actions have not only tarnished her professional reputation but have also disrupted public services and sowed seeds of doubt within the community. Sentencing is pending, with further proceedings scheduled for February
