During her tenure on “General Hospital” from 1980 to 1982, with returns in 1983 and 1994, Peters’ portrayal of Mrs. Whitaker won the hearts of viewers. Her character was renowned for dispensing wisdom from her farm kitchen in Beecher’s Corners and serving as a surrogate mother to Laura Spencer, a storyline that resonated deeply with fans of the soap opera.

Peters’ illustrious career spanned stage and screen, with her Broadway debut in 1955 in “Inherit the Wind.” She continued to grace the stage in regional theatre productions, showcasing her talent in musicals such as “Sound of Music,” “Big River,” “Show Boat,” and “Funny Girl.” Her television appearances included roles in “Quantum Leap,” “Mr. Belvedere,” and “The Waltons,” among others, demonstrating her versatility as an actress.

Beyond television and theatre, Peters contributed to the film industry, with credits in “Where Love Has Gone,” “Fitzwilly,” “Candyland,” and “Back to School.” Her legacy as a performer who brought warmth and depth to her roles will be fondly remembered by colleagues and audiences alike.
