Victim stabbed in broad daylight on Thessaly Road—suspect charged with wounding with intent
A quiet Friday afternoon in Battersea was shattered by violence when a man in his 30s was stabbed in broad daylight, sparking panic across the community. The stabbing, which occurred around 4:30pm on Thessaly Road, prompted an emergency response involving police and London’s Air Ambulance, as stunned residents watched their familiar streets turn into a crime scene.
The victim was swiftly flown to hospital where medics confirmed his injuries were serious, yet thankfully neither life-threatening nor life-changing. Still, the ferocity of the attack has left locals deeply shaken.
Within hours, police arrested 25-year-old Anas Hooshow from nearby Ascalon Street in Nine Elms. He was charged with a Section 18 offence—wounding with intent, one of the most serious charges short of attempted murder. Hooshow has since appeared before magistrates and is now awaiting trial at crown court.
As the investigation continues, the atmosphere in Battersea remains tense. Residents are still coming to terms with the senseless act, which occurred in broad daylight in a busy neighbourhood. Many have expressed fears over escalating violence and are demanding increased police presence to restore confidence in local safety.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police condemned the attack in no uncertain terms: “This cowardly act on an unsuspecting member of our community is utterly appalling. We are fully committed to bringing the perpetrator to justice and ensuring Battersea remains a safe place for all.”

The motive behind the attack has not been confirmed publicly, though officers are pursuing several lines of enquiry. Locals say the incident was unexpected and believe the area, while diverse and occasionally troubled, is generally peaceful.
Battersea MP Marsha de Cordova released a statement expressing her concern and support for the community: “This violent attack is disturbing and must be addressed with urgency. I stand with the residents of Battersea in calling for swift justice and greater community engagement to prevent further violence.”
The council has also offered support to those affected, providing access to trauma counselling services and engaging with police to address safety concerns in the area.
The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, remains in hospital recovering. Friends have described him as “quiet, kind and well-liked,” making the nature of the attack all the more baffling to those who know him.
As Battersea absorbs the shock of this brutal act, many hope that swift justice and visible action from authorities will prevent further bloodshed. The case now moves to the crown court, where the full circumstances of the attack are expected to be laid bare.
