Outrage erupts as iconic character’s last moments spark controversy among DC enthusiasts

A wave of discontent has swept through the DC fandom as the new Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League game unveils Batman’s final scene, voiced by the late Kevin Conroy. The iconic actor, who lent his voice to the legendary character since 1992, left fans emotional and dissatisfied as they witnessed the Caped Crusader’s defeat at the hands of Harley Quinn.

Kevin Conroy, who passed away in November 2022, showcased his vocal prowess as Bruce Wayne in what would be one of his last performances. The new game, originally slated for a 2022 release, faced delays, eventually hitting screens on January 29, 2024, for deluxe edition owners, ahead of its scheduled February 2 release.

In a scene uploaded by YouTuber Dan Allen Gaming, Batman is seen lying defeated on a bench, bloodied with purple eyes post a showdown with Harley Quinn. Viewers, aware that this marks Conroy’s final portrayal as Batman, expressed their dismay in the comments section. The sentiment echoed a sense of disrespect towards both the Arkham Batman character and the late Kevin Conroy.

One comment read: “It just feels wrong that this is the final scene of not only Arkham Batman but also Kevin Conroy as Batman. I’d be more OK with this if it wasn’t either of these versions but the fact that it is BOTH of these iconic Batman’s feels like a slap in the face.”

Another disgruntled fan voiced, “Makes absolute no sense as to why or how Batman even spared the Suicide Squad.”

The controversy deepened with a third fan expressing, “Even if Kevin Conroy hadn’t passed away, this still would have been the most disrespectful way to send off Arkham Batman.”

Adding to the discord, someone noted, “Harley killing off the guy who kept sparing her throughout the Arkham series and saying he causes mental and emotional damages like Batman’s the real villain was beyond disrespectful.”

However, it’s reported that Conroy’s voice will still resonate with fans in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part 3, set to release later this year, offering some solace amidst the contentious ending.

While the character’s demise stirred controversy, the game faced technical issues, leading to an offline status due to a bug. Rocksteady Studios resolved the matter with a re-release after hours of maintenance.
