A one-year-old baby and two adults were hospitalised after a savage dog attack shocks a quiet UK neighborhood.

A quiet evening in a Tameside suburb turned into a scene of terror on Wednesday when a one-year-old baby and two adults were viciously mauled by a dog in a brutal attack. Emergency services, including armed police and an air ambulance, rushed to the residential street in Denton, Greater Manchester, after the alarm was raised shortly before 6pm.

The attack unfolded on Baslow Road, in the Haughton Green area, where residents described hearing screaming and chaos erupting in the usually peaceful neighbourhood. Police confirmed that “several” people had been attacked by the dog. Among them, a toddler and two adults were badly injured and taken to hospital. Their current condition has not yet been confirmed.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and paramedics descended on the street, joined swiftly by armed response units. An air ambulance landed on a nearby green and remained at the scene for around an hour, underscoring the seriousness of the situation. The street was cordoned off as detectives and CID officers began combing the area for evidence.

Witnesses described a harrowing scene. “It was chaos,” said one neighbour, who watched from her window. “There were sirens everywhere, and then I saw the helicopter land. Everyone was out in the street trying to figure out what had happened.”

Photos from the scene show emergency vehicles blocking off the road, with officers standing guard near a large cordon. The terrifying nature of the attack has left residents shaken, particularly as a small child was among the victims.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “We were called to Baslow Road, Denton, at around 5:50pm today (May 29) to reports several people had been attacked by a dog. Three people, a one-year-old child and two adults, are in hospital being treated for their injuries.”

Police have yet to release further details about the dog, including its breed, whether it has been seized, or if any arrests have been made in connection with the incident. Authorities have confirmed they are continuing their investigation, with officers remaining at the scene into the evening.

Dog attacks of this nature have reignited public fears across the UK in recent months, with calls growing louder for tighter regulation and stricter enforcement on dangerous breeds. Wednesday’s mauling is expected to intensify those demands, especially as images of the large emergency response circulate online.

Residents of Denton have taken to social media to express their shock, many sending wishes for a speedy recovery to the victims. “It’s heartbreaking,” wrote one user. “That poor baby—how does something like this even happen in a quiet place like ours?”

Greater Manchester Police have urged anyone with information or footage of the incident to come forward. Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with locals who may have witnessed the dog before, during, or after the attack.

As daylight faded, officers continued their work behind the police tape, while forensics specialists examined the area. No timeline has yet been given for when the cordon will be lifted or when more details will be released.

The community, for now, remains rattled—clutching their children a little closer and locking gates that, just yesterday, seemed unnecessary. Whatever triggered the violent rampage, it has left emotional and physical scars on a neighbourhood now grappling with the aftermath of a horrifying event.
