Users Express Concerns Over the Latest Apple Release Set to Redefine Spatial Computing

As the eagerly awaited release of Apple‘s Vision Pro approaches, tech enthusiasts find themselves grappling with mixed emotions over the groundbreaking device.

The Vision Pro, hailed by Apple’s CEO Tim Cook as a ‘revolutionary spatial computer,’ promises an unparalleled 3D interface with functionalities driven by eye, hand, or voice commands. Cook expressed his anticipation, stating, “The era of spatial computing has arrived. Apple Vision Pro is the most advanced consumer electronics device ever created. Its revolutionary and magical user interface will redefine how we connect, create, and explore.”

Content creator Marques Brownlee recently delved into the intricacies of the device in a comprehensive 35-minute YouTube tutorial titled ‘Everything You Need to Know About Using Apple Vision Pro.’ Despite the impressive technology showcased, some viewers couldn’t help but draw parallels to the unsettling dystopian vibes of the popular show ‘Black Mirror.’

While comments flooded in with praise for the immersive product, acknowledging its potential impact on the industry, concerns arose regarding the FaceTime feature of Apple Vision Pro. Users found the appearance of people’s faces in FaceTime ‘unsettling.’

According to Apple’s official website, ‘FaceTime on Apple Vision Pro takes advantage of the space around the user so that everyone on a call appears life-size.’ If a caller is also using an Apple Vision Pro, they will manifest as a ‘Persona,’ an authentic spatial representation in real time.

However, the introduction of these ‘Personas’ has faced criticism, particularly for their perceived ‘low quality.’ Users on social media platforms likened the graphics to those seen in the 2004 video game ‘GTA San Andreas’ and ‘Assassin’s Creed 1.’

One user quipped, “This s**t looks like San Andreas 2004,” while another remarked, “What’s with the Assassins Creed 1 looking graphics? Imagine paying that much for this.” A third user commented, “The Apple ‘personas’ are very unsettling.”

Despite the graphic concerns, defenders of the device highlighted its unique ability to map and recreate faces digitally, setting it apart from other VR headsets. They expressed optimism that the technology would only improve over time.

As the February 2 launch date approaches, excitement still surrounds the release of the Apple Vision Pro, although the hefty price tag of $3,499 has raised eyebrows.
