Pre-orders spark a frenzy as resellers capitalize on the high demand for apple’s latest vr innovation

Apple’s much-anticipated Vision Pro headsets, unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2023 and set to revolutionize virtual reality experiences, are already causing a stir in the resale market. Within hours of pre-orders going live, eager buyers looking to secure the cutting-edge technology are faced with steep markups as resellers flood online platforms.

The Vision Pro headset, resembling futuristic ski goggles, boasts a range of features designed for an immersive virtual reality experience. Controlled by hand gestures, eye movements, and voice commands, Apple CEO Tim Cook introduced it as the “first Apple product you look through, and not at.” A dial allows users to seamlessly switch between augmented and full virtual reality modes.

Despite the innovative design and features, the price tag attached to the Vision Pro raised eyebrows when announced. Priced starting at $3,499, significantly higher than Meta Quest 3, the leading VR headset from Facebook’s parent company, the cost didn’t deter enthusiasts during the pre-order frenzy.

The pre-orders, which opened on Friday, saw the resale market quickly capitalize on the high demand. eBay listings for the Vision Pro appeared within an hour of pre-orders going live, sporting massive markups exceeding $1,000. Headsets were listed for $4,250 and $4,500, with sellers anticipating substantial profits even after eBay fees and shipping costs.

Apple’s decision to enter the VR space has generated mixed reactions, with some users joking about the need for a snorkel at the premium price, while others defended it by drawing comparisons to early VHS player costs. The heightened resale activity indicates strong interest and demand for Apple’s latest venture into immersive technology.

As the release date approaches and anticipation builds, the resale market for the Vision Pro headsets is likely to continue thriving, offering both challenges and opportunities for consumers seeking the cutting edge of virtual reality.
