Strictly Come Dancing fan-favourite Amy Dowden has excitedly announced her second honeymoon, courtesy of TV host Lorraine Kelly, to make up for a challenging first trip that was overshadowed by a cancer scare.

Lorraine Kelly revealed on her show that Amy and husband Ben have been sent to Grenada in the Caribbean for a fresh start, compensating for the disruption during their initial honeymoon caused by Amy’s discovery of a cancerous lump.

Speaking on the show, Amy teased an upcoming travelogue with her husband, expressing, “Join us for a trip of a lifetime as we start this year afresh and cherish every moment.”

Amy and Ben tied the knot in the summer of 2022, embarking on their first honeymoon in April 2023. Unfortunately, the trip was marred when Amy found a lump in her breast just before flying to the Maldives. Upon returning, she had it checked and was diagnosed with breast cancer in May of that year.

In an interview with The Mirror, Amy shared that the lump overshadowed their entire first honeymoon, revealing that she had a gut feeling it was cancer even before getting it checked. Despite not wanting to worry Ben, she couldn’t escape the constant concern throughout the trip.

Reflecting on that time, Amy said, “Unfortunately now when I think of that honeymoon, I think of the start of my breast cancer journey. I just knew the entire holiday – I just had this gut feeling. I just knew.”

Now, nine months after completing chemotherapy and undergoing a mastectomy and reconstruction, Amy is embracing a second honeymoon in the Caribbean, graciously gifted by Lorraine Kelly.

“It’s the first time I have gone away. And what with the blood clots and wearing a bikini for the first time and everything. But, these are all steps that I need to take,” shared Amy, who celebrated the end of her chemotherapy in November.

Amy also expressed hope that the sunshine and Vitamin D during this getaway would aid in speeding up her hair growth. Sharing new pictures on her Instagram Stories, she revealed that her hair is starting to grow back.
