A cruel airhorn interruption leaves Adam Svensson just outside the cut line at the Farmers Insurance Open
Adam Svensson bid to make the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open was derailed by an airhorn mishap as he prepared to take a crucial putt on his final hole.
The 31-year-old Canadian was on the ninth hole of Torrey Pines North Course, needing a birdie putt to get to one over par and sneak inside the projected cut line. However, just as he began his backswing, the horn went off to signal a suspension of play due to high winds, causing him to miss the putt and settle for a par.
This left Svensson at two over par, one shot shy of the cut. Despite the long weather delay, it seemed highly unlikely that the cut line would shift enough to let him back into contention.
Conditions on the course had been brutal, with strong winds complicating play throughout the day. Many golfers struggled with their yardages and approaches, including tournament leaders like Ludvig Åberg, who managed a three-over 75 after an opening round of 63.

Svensson’s unfortunate exit was just one example of how tough the second round proved to be, as the tournament field battled the harsh elements at Torrey Pines.
The interruption has sparked outrage among fans, many of whom feel that the noise unfairly affected Svensson’s performance. As a result, some have called for stricter regulations to prevent similar disruptions in the future, particularly during critical moments like a putt for the cut line.
Despite the disappointing finish, Svensson remained composed, expressing his frustration over the timing but acknowledging the challenging conditions that all players faced. The Canadian golfer, known for his resilience, will undoubtedly aim to bounce back in future tournaments and improve on this unfortunate experience.
