Aaron Pierre joins James Gunn’s Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, ahead of filming in Atlanta

Actor Aaron Pierre has joined the cast of Man of Tomorrow, the upcoming Superman sequel from DC Studios and filmmaker James Gunn.

Pierre is already part of the DC universe through his role as John Stewart, one of the Green Lantern heroes, in the upcoming HBO series Lanterns. His casting in the new Superman film strengthens DC Studios’ plan to build an interconnected screen universe spanning both television and cinema.

Man of Tomorrow serves as the follow-up to the 2025 film Superman. Gunn, who wrote the screenplay and is directing the sequel, is expected to begin production in Atlanta this summer.

David Corenswet will return to the role of Superman, while Nicholas Hoult is set to reprise his portrayal of the villain Lex Luthor.

The film’s storyline will see the two characters joining forces to confront a powerful technological alien threat known as Brainiac. German actor Lars Eidinger has been cast as the classic Superman antagonist.

The sequel will also bring back several characters introduced in the previous film.

Rachel Brosnahan is returning as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo will again play Jimmy Olsen and Sara Sampaio will reprise her role as Eve Teschmacher.

Other heroes are also set to appear in the movie. Isabela Merced will return as Hawkgirl, while Maria Gabriela de Faria will again portray The Engineer.

Production for Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to begin in April in Atlanta and continue through the summer months.

Pierre’s involvement reflects DC Studios’ wider strategy of connecting its television and film projects into a single story universe.

His character John Stewart is one of the Green Lanterns, members of an intergalactic police force known as the Green Lantern Corps. The group patrols different sectors of the universe, including Earth.

Because both Superman and Brainiac are characters connected to space and alien origins, the introduction of a Green Lantern character into the broader story world fits naturally within DC’s evolving narrative.

Pierre will first appear as John Stewart in Lanterns, DC Studios’ first live-action television series within its new interconnected universe. The show is scheduled to premiere in August.

The actor has gained increasing attention in Hollywood in recent years following several notable performances.

He drew widespread praise for his role in the 2024 Netflix thriller Rebel Ridge, directed by Jeremy Saulnier. The performance helped raise his profile in the film industry.

Pierre also appeared in the Apple TV+ series The Morning Show last year.

In addition to his on-screen work, he has contributed voice performances in recent projects, including Mufasa: The Lion King and the animated film GOAT.

His casting in Man of Tomorrow adds another rising talent to DC Studios’ expanding roster as the company continues to reshape its cinematic universe under Gunn’s leadership.

With production set to begin soon, the sequel aims to build on the foundation established by Superman while introducing new characters and threats into the story.
