Valencia appoints Carlos Corberan as new head coach, securing him with a deal until 2027

Corberan’s release clause, reported to be between £3-4 million, was paid by Valencia, making the Spaniard the new leader of the club. The former Huddersfield Town manager has signed a deal that will keep him at Valencia until the end of the 2026-27 season. Despite a reduced budget, Corberan led West Brom to a seventh-place position in the Championship this season, just outside the play-off spots. Corberan’s work at West Brom earned him widespread respect, but now he faces the challenge of reviving a Valencia side sitting second-bottom in La Liga, four points adrift from safety.

In his farewell message on social media, Corberan described the decision to leave Albion as “the hardest of my life.” He expressed his deep gratitude to the club and its supporters, adding, “There will always be a place in my heart for this special club, and I hope one day I can return to thank you all for your incredible support.”

While Valencia’s immediate future looks uncertain, Corberan has the task of turning around their fortunes. His first challenge will be a tough encounter against reigning champions Real Madrid on January 3, just days after he officially takes charge. The team’s struggles under Baraja, who was let go following a string of poor performances, have left Valencia in a precarious position.

Corberan’s appointment comes after speculation linking him with other managerial roles, including the vacant position at Premier League side Southampton, which ultimately went to Ivan Juric. Valencia’s gamble on Corberan highlights their belief in his ability to turn things around and restore the club to its former glory.
