Royal insider suggests the couple may take on the roles of King and Queen earlier than anticipated due to King Charles’ health challenges

A royal biographer has raised speculation that Prince William and Kate Middleton could be preparing to ascend to the throne sooner than anyone expected. This comes amid ongoing health challenges faced by King Charles, who was diagnosed with cancer in February 2024. Despite his diagnosis, the King has remained active behind the scenes, continuing with official duties like managing paperwork and meeting with the Prime Minister.

However, the King’s treatment has limited his public appearances, leading to increased responsibilities for his son, Prince William. Royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith suggested that William and Kate are preparing for their future roles much sooner than anticipated.

Smith stated, “Although the King is carrying out his duties with typical determination, he has had to accept limitations during his cancer treatment. As a result, William has been taking on more responsibilities, and he and Kate have been preparing for their future roles sooner than they would have expected.”

Since King Charles took the throne in September 2022 following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the Royal Family has been adjusting to a new dynamic. The transition to the monarchy has been smoother than expected, but these latest developments suggest that Prince William, who has long been groomed for the role, may take on the mantle of King much earlier than anticipated.

Kate Middleton, as the Princess of Wales, is also preparing for her future role as Queen. The couple’s growing presence in public life is indicative of their readiness to take on the responsibilities of the throne.
