Saudi UNDP partnership aligned with Vision 2030 showcasing leadership in sustainable growth
In a landmark move to advance sustainable development, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Economy and Planning has partnered with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The agreement, signed by Hattan Bin Samman, general supervisor for international organisations at the Ministry, and Nahid Hussein, UNDP resident representative for Saudi Arabia, aims to enhance the Kingdom’s economic and social policy planning under the ambitious Vision 2030 framework.
The signing ceremony, held in Riyadh, brought together prominent figures, including Faisal Al-Ibrahim, Minister of Economy and Planning, Achim Steiner, UNDP Administrator, and Ammar Nagadi, Vice Minister of Economy and Planning. Officials highlighted the partnership’s potential to strengthen institutional competencies, foster knowledge exchange, and position Saudi Arabia as a global leader in sustainable development.
“This collaboration reflects our commitment to sustainable economic and social development,” said Faisal Al-Ibrahim. “It aligns with Vision 2030’s goals to develop robust national policies, enhance institutional capabilities, and showcase the Kingdom’s achievements on the world stage.”

The event underscores the Kingdom’s focus on global cooperation to address pressing environmental issues, including desertification and climate change.
Abdulrahman Al-Fadli, Saudi Minister of Environment and incoming COP16 President opened the conference with a call for collective action. Themed “Our Land. Our Future,” COP16, running from December 2 to 13, features initiatives like the “Friends of the Chair” group tasked with drafting the Riyadh Policy Declaration, a significant document outlining actionable solutions.
The partnership with UNDP reinforces these efforts, enabling Saudi Arabia to adopt innovative strategies that integrate environmental and economic priorities. The deal also strengthens ties between the Kingdom and international bodies, promoting knowledge sharing to accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.
UNDP, the UN’s leading development agency, is renowned for its work in eradicating poverty, supporting climate action under the Paris Agreement, and fostering transformative change. This collaboration allows Saudi Arabia to leverage global expertise while amplifying its voice in international discussions about sustainable growth.
With Vision 2030 as its foundation, Saudi Arabia continues to position itself at the forefront of global efforts to tackle economic, environmental, and social challenges. This partnership exemplifies the Kingdom’s dedication to building a future where economic prosperity and sustainability go hand in hand.
