Bangladesh celebrated a historic victory over the West Indies in the second Test in Kingston, clinching their first Test win in the West Indies in 15 years. Their 101-run triumph, on day four of the match, ensured the two-match series ended in a 1-1 draw.
Spinner Taijul Islam was the star of the day, taking 5-50 as the West Indies crumbled to 185 in their chase of 287. Earlier in the day, Bangladesh’s Jaker Ali had played a crucial role with the bat, scoring a career-best 91 to help his team reach 268 all out. That set an imposing target for the hosts, who started their chase confidently but faltered under pressure.
The West Indies seemed to be in control at 92-2, with captain Kraigg Brathwaite and Kavem Hodge providing resistance. Brathwaite added 43 runs, while Hodge top-scored for the hosts with 55. However, the middle and lower order collapsed dramatically, losing their final six wickets for just 42 runs. Taijul Islam’s decisive spell and support from the rest of the Bangladesh bowling attack sealed the victory.
Bangladesh’s achievement marked their first Test win on West Indian soil since a 2-0 clean sweep in 2009. It also highlighted the team’s growing success away from home, with this being their third Test win in a calendar year—following two victories over Pakistan in Rawalpindi in August and September.
