Harry Maguire and Amad express their support on social media as Van Nistelrooy begins his managerial journey at Leicester City.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, the former Manchester United striker and coach, has been officially appointed as the new manager of Leicester City following his departure from Old Trafford. The Dutchman signed a contract that will keep him at the club until 2027. His first match as Leicester’s manager will be against West Ham at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night, although he will observe the team’s game against Brentford over the weekend.

Van Nistelrooy’s transition to Leicester comes after a stint as an assistant to Erik ten Hag at United. When Ten Hag was dismissed, Van Nistelrooy took over as interim manager for four games, securing three wins and one draw. Ironically, two of those victories came against Leicester, with United winning 5-2 in the Carabao Cup and 3-0 in the Premier League.

Leicester City decided to part ways with Steve Cooper on Sunday, prompting quick speculation about Van Nistelrooy taking the reins. The appointment was confirmed on Friday, and the announcement has received positive reactions from various figures, including Manchester United players. Harry Maguire and Amad both ‘liked’ Leicester City’s announcement on social media, showing their respect for their former coach. Maguire, in particular, has a connection to Leicester, having played for the club for two seasons before joining United.

In his first comments as Leicester’s new manager, Van Nistelrooy expressed his excitement and pride in the role: “Everybody that I speak to about Leicester City Football Club is enthusiastic. The club’s recent history is impressive, and I’m excited to start. It’s a big responsibility, and I take it seriously. I’m eager to get to know the people, the community, and the supporters, and to truly feel what this club means to them.”
