Saudi Arabia Cybersecurity 2024: Riyadh hosts global experts to advance digital security and innovation under Vision 2030
Saudi Arabia Cybersecurity 2024 took centre stage this week as the Kingdom hosted the Black Hat Middle East and Africa (MENA) conference in Riyadh from November 26-28, showcasing its growing influence in digital security and commitment to Vision 2030’s technological innovation.
Organised by the Saudi Federation for Cybersecurity, Programming, and Drones in collaboration with Tahaluf, Informa Global, and the Events Investment Fund, the conference attracted cybersecurity experts from around the globe. Attendees explored critical issues such as protecting digital infrastructure, emerging threats, and fostering innovation in cyber defence.
Global Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing
Mutab Al-Qunai, CEO of the Saudi Federation for Cybersecurity, underscored the event’s mission to inspire innovation and cooperation in cybersecurity. “This conference fosters a culture of collaboration, enabling us to address evolving digital threats together,” he said ahead of the event.
The conference featured technical sessions, workshops, and a special focus on how cybersecurity can safeguard emerging technologies. A standout feature was the Drone Challenge Zone, designed to engage young Saudis in drone technology and its associated cybersecurity challenges.
Notable contributors included Indian security researcher Nikhil Shrivastava and Bianca Lewis, founder of Girls Who Hack. They shared insights into the fast-evolving landscape of cybersecurity threats and cutting-edge solutions to combat them.

Black Hat MENA attracted representation from five national pavilions, including the US, Canada, India, Egypt, and Pakistan. With over 300 speakers, 450 exhibitors, and 350 workshops, the event offered a comprehensive look at global cybersecurity trends.
The Activity Zone, sponsored by Haboob, provided interactive challenges with a total prize pool exceeding SR2 million ($532,000). Participants tested their skills in areas such as smart home security, medical device hacking, and infrastructure vulnerability detection. One of the conference’s highlights was the Capture the Flag tournament, where prizes totalling SR790,000 were awarded, including SR90,000 specifically for Saudi teams.

Faisal Al-Khamisi, chairman of the Saudi Federation for Cybersecurity, emphasised the strategic importance of hosting Black Hat MENA. “This event aligns perfectly with Saudi Arabia’s vision to lead in cybersecurity, ensuring we are well-prepared for the digital challenges of the future,” he stated.
