The popular deal or no deal presenter was rushed to hospital following a bad reaction to drinks after a recent operation.
Stephen Mulhern, the beloved TV personality and host of Deal or No Deal, was rushed to hospital on Wednesday evening after collapsing at a Pizza Express restaurant, just hours after undergoing surgery. The 47-year-old star had a bad reaction to a few drinks following his procedure, prompting concerned staff to call an ambulance.
The incident occurred around 8 pm at the restaurant in Camberley, Surrey, where Mulhern had been dining alone following a recent operation. After the anaesthetic wore off, the TV presenter consumed a few drinks, which led to him falling ill. Paramedics swiftly arrived and transported him to Frimley Park Hospital for precautionary care.
A statement released to Metro clarified the situation, explaining that Mulhern had been dealing with an incredibly challenging time. Recently, the presenter faced the loss of his father, which has understandably taken an emotional toll on him. “Stephen has had an incredibly tough time over the past few weeks. His beloved father recently passed away, which has hit him hard and been understandably very stressful,” the statement read.
It went on to explain that after undergoing surgery, Mulhern’s reaction to the alcohol was severe enough for him to be taken to the hospital, though he was soon discharged and is now recovering at home. “He is now back home recovering,” the statement confirmed.
An insider told The Sun that Mulhern had opted for a quiet, solo dinner to unwind. However, his consumption of a few drinks after the anaesthetic caused a much stronger reaction than he had anticipated. “He’s only human, and his dad’s death has hit him hard,” the source said, emphasising the emotional strain Mulhern had been under.
The You Bet! host, who had been appearing alongside Holly Willoughby on ITV, is now resting and recuperating at home, supported by his friends and ITV. His recovery is the main focus at this time, as Mulhern seeks to regain his strength.
Mulhern, who also made headlines earlier this year when he was seen holding hands with fellow ITV star Josie Gibson, is putting his energy into his professional commitments. Both stars had swiftly denied any romantic speculation, clarifying that they were just friends.
The popular presenter is now set to return to filming for the rebooted ITV game show, where he will continue to work alongside Willoughby. As he recovers, his fans and colleagues alike are sending their support, hopeful for his swift return to full health
