Photographers from East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire capture stunning images of October’s Hunter’s supermoon, marking a celestial highlight for stargazers

On Thursday night, the skies were alight as the Hunter’s Moon, a captivating supermoon, graced the heavens over East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. This astronomical event attracted the attention of keen photographers, who seized the opportunity to capture the supermoon in all its glory.

Supermoons occur when the Moon reaches its closest point to Earth in its orbit, resulting in a lunar spectacle that can appear up to 30% larger and 15% brighter than the average full moon. This year, October’s full moon earned the title of “Hunter’s Moon,” a nod to the traditional hunting season that occurs around this time, when hunters would prepare for the winter months by tracking animals for food.

Photographers like Dani Wright and Anne Howard Webb were among those who documented this spectacular event. Wright captured the supermoon illuminating the night sky over Keadby in North Lincolnshire, while Webb’s lens framed the moon peeking through light clouds and trees in Goole, East Yorkshire. As the Hunter’s Moon fades from view, stargazers can look forward to the next supermoon, known as the Beaver Moon, set to rise on 15 November. Throughout the year, four supermoons are slated to occur, with August, September, October, and November all providing opportunities for celestial wonder.
