A speeding passenger bus veers off the road in Dera Ghazi Khan, leading to multiple injuries and an emergency response

A serious road accident on the Indus Highway near Aali Wala in Dera Ghazi Khan resulted in 12 people sustaining injuries on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred when a passenger bus travelling from Dera Ghazi Khan to Jampur lost control and careened off the road, crashing into adjacent fields.

As the news of the accident spread, Rescue 1122 sprang into action, dispatching two ambulances, a motorbike ambulance, a fire vehicle, and a rescue vehicle to the scene. Emergency responders arrived promptly to assess the situation and provide medical assistance. Of the injured passengers, six were reported in critical condition and were quickly transported to the Allama Iqbal Teaching Hospital. The remaining six received first aid on-site before being stabilised.

In a separate yet significant event, Allama Iqbal Teaching Hospital inaugurated a three-day free surgical eye camp, aimed at providing essential eye care services to the community. MNA Sardar Abdul Qadir Khan Khosa officially launched the camp, which is being held with the support of the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and Al-Shifa Trust. This initiative reflects a commitment to addressing healthcare needs, particularly for individuals requiring eye treatments.

During the inauguration, Dr Abdul Rahman Amir Qaisrani, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, along with Ghazi Khan Medical College Principal Prof Dr Asif Qureshi, and other prominent figures including Dr Abrar Hussain Khosa and OGDCL General Manager Muhammad Tayyab, gathered to mark the occasion. Dr Qaisrani stated that after the three-day free camp concludes, the hospital will implement regular operations in the new eye ward, scheduled to take place twice a week.

The free eye camp offers a variety of services, including comprehensive check-ups, cataract surgeries, and the provision of medications, lenses, and spectacles at no cost. Such initiatives are vital in ensuring that underserved communities receive the healthcare they deserve.

Meanwhile, the aftermath of the bus accident has raised concerns about road safety in the region. Local authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, focusing on factors such as speeding and the maintenance of the vehicle. The accident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers faced by commuters on busy highways.

The dual events of the bus accident and the eye camp highlight the ongoing challenges and efforts within the healthcare system and road safety in Pakistan. As authorities work to improve conditions and services, community members are encouraged to stay vigilant and seek assistance when needed.
