The pop icon is up for seven awards, including Best Video and Best Artist, following the success of her latest album.

In a remarkable display of talent and popularity, Taylor Swift leads the nominations for the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) for the second consecutive year. The 34-year-old superstar has secured seven nominations, including Best Video, Best Artist, Best US Act, and Best Collaboration. This recognition follows the release of her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, earlier this year, which has garnered significant acclaim from both fans and critics alike.

The EMAs nominations come on the heels of Swift’s impressive performance at the 2024 Video Music Awards (VMAs), where she took home seven awards, pushing her career total to an astonishing 30. This achievement places her in a tie with Beyoncé as the most-awarded artist in the history of the VMAs, underscoring her status as a force in the music industry.

In 2023, Swift was also up for seven awards at the EMAs, but the ceremony was ultimately cancelled due to “the volatility of world events” stemming from the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war. This year, however, the awards will proceed, and excitement is palpable among fans and artists alike.

The nominations see Swift facing tough competition in the Best Artist category. She goes up against American artists such as Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Billie Eilish, along with British singer Raye. Notably, British talents including Central Cee, Charli XCX, and Coldplay are also vying for various awards this year, contributing to a diverse and highly competitive lineup.

In a move to engage new fans, MTV has introduced 19 nominees who are in contention for their first-ever EMA, highlighting the evolving landscape of the music industry. Among those nominees are notable British and Irish acts like Disclosure and Fred Again, nominated for Best Electronic, as well as the post-punk band Fontaines DC for Best Alternative. The indie group The Last Dinner Party has also been recognised in the Best New Act category, showcasing the array of talent present this year.

In the hip-hop category, heavyweight artists such as Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Megan Thee Stallion, and Nicki Minaj are in the running for Best Hip-Hop, while legendary bands including Bon Jovi, Coldplay, Green Day, Liam Gallagher, and The Killers compete for Best Rock.

The awards promise to be a celebration of musical achievement, with performances and appearances from some of the biggest names in the industry. Swift’s nominations not only reflect her artistic prowess but also her ability to resonate with a wide audience, as she continues to shape the musical landscape.

Fans eagerly anticipate the ceremony, hoping to see their favourite artists take home coveted awards. As the EMAs approach, Swift’s status as a leading figure in the music scene is firmly cemented, leaving audiences excited for what she will bring next.
