Saudi Arabia has been making waves on the global stage by achieving more than 233 Guinness World Records, demonstrating its commitment to excellence across various sectors. From technological feats to artistic celebrations, the Kingdom’s record-breaking efforts align with its broader Vision 2030 goals, positioning it as a key player in both the Middle East and internationally.

The most recent achievement came during Saudi Arabia’s 94th National Day when Diriyah set a record for the largest display of virtual assistant devices, featuring over 500 Amazon Echo devices and Alexa voice assistants. The country’s focus on cultural growth is evident in events like Noor Riyadh, an annual citywide light festival that has secured 14 Guinness World Records, including the title of the largest light art festival in the world. Nouf Al-Moneef, the festival’s director, explained that the preparation for such record-breaking achievements involved meticulous planning and collaboration with experts. Noor Riyadh’s success is driven by Saudi Arabia’s ambition to promote cultural innovation and gain global recognition.

In the realm of sports, Olympic athlete Kariman Abuljadayel made headlines in 2023 by achieving the fastest time to row 10 kilometres in open water, completing the challenge in just 57 minutes and 24 seconds in Jeddah. This accomplishment highlights Saudi Arabia’s growing presence in the international sports arena.

AlUla has also become a hotspot for breaking records. In 2019, the Royal Commission for AlUla set a record for the largest mirrored building, with a mirrored facade spanning 9,740 square meters. The region surpassed its own record in 2022 by hosting the largest hot air balloon glow show, featuring 142 balloons that lit up the desert sky.

The Riyadh Season, a series of cultural and sporting events held annually in the capital, has also garnered multiple Guinness World Records. These events are central to the Kingdom’s strategy to boost tourism and entertainment industries.

Beyond entertainment, Saudi Arabia has achieved notable records in environmental sustainability. In 2023, the Kingdom entered the Guinness World Record for creating the largest sustainable farm, covering more than 3.2 million square meters. This achievement underscores the government’s commitment to environmental innovation and sustainable development.

One of the most groundbreaking scientific achievements came in 2015 when scientists from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology created the darkest man-made substance using gold nanoparticles. This material, known as “dark chameleon dimers,” absorbs more than 99 per cent of visible light, furthering Saudi Arabia’s contributions to cutting-edge scientific research.

Saudi youth are also making their mark. Ritaj Al-Hazmi, a Saudi columnist and author, has been recognized twice by Guinness World Records. In 2020, she became the youngest female to publish a book series at the age of 12, and in 2024, she became the youngest female newspaper columnist at just 15 years old.

These achievements reflect the Kingdom’s determination to excel in a wide range of fields, from technology and sports to environmental initiatives and the arts. With more records expected to be broken in the coming months, Saudi Arabia’s Guinness World Record streak shows no signs of slowing down.
