Noticing the man running and entering a vehicle, she followed him, took pictures of his license plate, and sent the images to the authorities.
Trump, recounting the events at the town hall, highlighted the woman’s critical role in the suspect’s apprehension. “So the guy’s now running for his life, and he’s got a car a block away or whatever,” Trump said. “And a woman, driving in a car, saw a man on the street, pretty busy street, running. She followed him, it wasn’t very far, and parked the car behind his car and started taking pictures of his license plate.”
The former president’s praise for the woman extended to her quick actions and intuition, which led to Routh’s arrest on the I-95 highway less than an hour after the incident. Routh faced charges including possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obstructed serial number.
