Saudi Arabia and South Africa set to sign MoU to boost cooperation in space industry

Saudi Arabia and South Africa are nearing the signing of a significant memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of space industry collaboration. According to Dr Bonginkosi Blade Nzimande, South Africa’s Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, the agreement will facilitate cooperation between the space agencies of both countries, focusing on joint satellite development and the enhancement of national space capabilities.

This announcement comes at a pivotal time, as Saudi Arabia is actively working to strengthen its position in the global space industry. Recently, the Kingdom has been advancing its expertise in space sciences, including the establishment of the Space Weather Center in South Africa. Dr Nzimande, who made the announcement while attending the Global AI Summit in Riyadh, emphasized South Africa’s eagerness to expand its partnership with Saudi Arabia. Talks held with Saudi Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Eng. Abdullah Al-Swaha laid the groundwork for future collaboration in space and other tech-related sectors, including artificial intelligence (AI). The discussions aimed to outline a framework for sharing best practices and exploring opportunities to align their policies and strategies in space sciences and AI development.
