Julia Garner to illuminate Marvel Universe as Shalla-Bal in “The Fantastic Four”

Garner’s casting as a unique version of Silver Surfer alongside an all-star cast heralds a new chapter for the iconic franchise

Julia Garner, celebrated for her riveting performances and accolades including Emmy and Golden Globe awards, is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a groundbreaking role. Garner will portray Shalla-Bal, a version of the Silver Surfer, in the upcoming “The Fantastic Four” reboot. This casting marks a significant addition to the franchise, promising to introduce audiences to a fresh perspective on the beloved Marvel comic character.

Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach will star alongside Garner, forming an ensemble cast that brings the iconic superhero team to life. Pascal takes on the role of Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), with Kirby as Sue Storm (the Invisible Woman), Quinn as Johnny Storm (the Human Torch), and Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (the Thing). Under the direction of Matt Shakman, known for his work on “WandaVision” and “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” and with a script penned by a team of writers including Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, Ian Springer, and Eric Pearson, the film is poised for production this summer, aiming for a July 25, 2025 release.

The Silver Surfer, previously embodied by Doug Jones and voiced by Laurence Fishburne in the 2007 film “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer,” is set for a unique reinterpretation through Garner’s portrayal. This new angle on the Silver Surfer, through the character of Shalla-Bal, hints at an innovative and possibly deeper exploration of the character’s lore within the Marvel universe.
