Mystery substance causes severe burns in shocking pub incident
In a horrifying incident at The Golden Lion pub in Jay’s Close, Basingstoke, a woman suffered severe burns and blistering after a mystery substance was thrown over her. The attack occurred as the woman was trying to leave the crowded pub, leaving her with burns down her back and her hair matted.
The victim, aged 52, was left with blistered and reddened skin, and most of her hair had to be cut off due to matting. The substance is not believed to be acid, according to police reports.
Embed from Getty ImagesTwo men, aged 48 and 53 and both from Basingstoke, were arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent and have been released on bail until May 10.
Police are appealing for information and are particularly interested in speaking to witnesses who were present at the pub during the incident, especially those who may have captured the attack on camera. The woman, who was wearing a leopard print top, was in the pub between 9.30pm and 10pm on Saturday, February 10.
The victim has been left extremely distressed by the incident, which caused her skin to redden and blister. The investigation is ongoing to determine the nature of the substance.
