Leeds United surged to a dominant victory over Swansea City, led by stellar performances from Crysencio Summerville, ex-Swan Joel Piroe, and Wilfried Gnonto, securing a 4-0 triumph at the Swansea.com Stadium.

In a display of relentless attacking prowess, Leeds seized control of the match by halftime. Gnonto further solidified their lead with a fourth goal after the break, propelling Leeds to second place in the Championship standings.

The pace and precision of Leeds proved too much for their hosts, who found themselves outmatched just days after Luke Williams secured his first win in charge at Hull. Despite their efforts, Swansea plummeted to 17th place, with Williams securing only one victory in six matches, including encounters with the top three teams in the league.

Leeds’ flawless start to 2024 had been buoyed by the resurgence of Patrick Bamford, who had amassed four goals and an assist in his last six games. However, Bamford’s anticipated start at the Swansea.com Stadium was thwarted by a leg muscle strain during the warm-up, leading to Piroe’s inclusion as his replacement.

Piroe wasted no time in making an impact, finding the net in less than ten minutes. Summerville continued Leeds’ onslaught, scoring his 16th goal of the season just seven minutes into the game. Swansea’s attempts to clear a corner were futile, with Georginio Rutter setting up Summerville for a curling effort that found the back of the net.

Moments later, Piroe capitalized on a clean break, courtesy of Gnonto’s assist, leaving Swansea’s goalkeeper powerless to stop his goal. Despite missed opportunities, Gnonto redeemed himself before halftime, securing Leeds’ third goal with a skilful manoeuvre past Swansea’s defence.

As Swansea sought to regain control in the second half, they struggled to convert possession into scoring opportunities. Despite creative efforts from new signing Ronald, Swansea’s Jamie Paterson squandered two chances. Meanwhile, Leeds capitalized on Swansea’s defensive lapses, with Gnonto netting his second goal of the match, sealing Leeds’ largest victory over Swansea since 1963.

Reflecting on the match, Leeds manager Daniel Farke hailed the team’s disciplined performance and cohesive unity, emphasizing their effective execution of the game plan. In contrast, Swansea head coach Luke Williams lamented his team’s lack of belief and failure to compete effectively against formidable opposition.
